History

The Museum was established in 1976 as the Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps (RAAOC) General Museum in its present location. The Museum building is itself unique, in that it is a WW2 era timber framed warehouse, with corrugated iron sheeting. It was constructed in 1940 and very few of these once prolific structures remain.

On the 1st of July 1997, the Royal Australian Corps of Transport Museum, the Australian Army Catering Corps Historical Collection, and the Royal Australian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Historical Collection were combined with the RAAOC General Museum to form the Army Museum Bandiana.

The Museum was officially renamed Australian Army Museum Bandiana on the 23rd of October 1997.

In 1998 the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps, the Royal Australian Army Dental Corps and the Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps Historical Collections were integrated into the Museum. During 2012/13 the Royal Australian Army Pay Corps collection was added to the Museum.
